New Database Helps Local Entrepreneurs

Genesee District Library patrons now have access to DemographicsNOW, a powerful database that includes a business directory, plus national and state demographic information. See full post for complete list of capabilities and videos.

Available via the GDL's Business Center webpage, and made possible through the Michigan e-Library, DemographicsNow is a comprehensive database for the entrepreneur and small business owner.

Use DemographicsNow to:

• Locate a U.S. Business
• Assess Market Risk (figure the rate of failure)
• Size your Market
• Choose a business location (by comparing consumer expenditure data)
• Find your Competition
• Create a List of Sales Leads

Finding your competition is a critical step for every prospective business owner. Take a look at the below video describing how this is possible with this resource.

Another key step is determining the level of risk involved. While starting a business is always risky, use this database to judge whether your intended location is better or worse than others by comparing current businesses with those that have gone out-of-business.
